Amsterdam photographer As a foreigner living far Amsterdam photographer As a foreigner living far from my home country, I often work with families who are also living far from their home countries. Their lives are shaped by movement, adaptation, and building a home in a place that is not where they were born—but where their children are growing up. Through my lens, I don’t just capture portraits. I document a chapter of their story. I see the small, everyday moments that make up their life abroad: the streets they walk, the light in their home, the seasons their children grow through, and the routines that slowly turn a foreign country into something familiar. Many of these children will grow up with memories from more than one place in the world. My photographs become a way for them—and for their parents—to hold on to this specific time in their lives, when everything was new and yet already becoming home. Being an expat family means living between cultures, languages, and identities. Photography helps connect all of it. It preserves not just how life looked, but how it felt to build a home somewhere new. One day, these images will serve as a reminder of a beautiful in-between chapter: a life lived across borders, and a family growing roots in a different soil.

Moving to a new country, starting a new job, build Moving to a new country, starting a new job, building new friendships, and creating an entirely new life from scratch while leaving behind the people and places you love the most is never easy. But here they are — incredibly brave, embracing a completely new beginning in one of the most beautiful and safest countries in the world. One year later, they are slowly turning an unfamiliar place into a home, and that takes courage, strength, and so much love. They decided to do this family session to commemorate their first year in the Netherlands — a way to honor their journey, their growth, and everything they have built together so far.
